Letter November 16

Hi everyone,

My companion and I just got back from a long beautiful walk. We walked out to the lighthouse here in Praia. It took us about an hour to get there. The lighthouse old so we could not go inside. We walked around the grounds and took pictures. The ocean is so beautiful. It's a deep dark blue where it is deep and a light blue where it was shallow. There are a lot of volcanic rocks along the coast and the waves break and splash against them. There were a few fisherman fishing. They were all friendly. Then we went over to this old Catholic Church. We were not sure if anyone was there. It had a bell tower so we went up to the top. It was made out of stones. We thought it would be better to ask for forgiveness then to ask permission. It had an old bell that was all tarnished. Then we went inside of the church grounds. A young man came out of a class room to meet us. He knew little English and we knew little Portuguese so the conversation was short. He did tell us that he was studying to be a priest and he showed us around and we left. I told Sister Cassita that we should take him a Book of Mormon. She agreed. We then went down to the beach. We took our shoes off and waded in the water. The water was warm and so clear. Not like the water in California. I guess when you are near the equator the water should be warm. I told Sister Cassita if we were back home we would have our snow gear on. We looked at each other and agreed that we like it here better. There was a little snack bar right there so we stopped and got some bottled water. We sat in the shade to drink it. We watched kids playing in the water and in the sand. They aren't any different then kids back home. We were setting talking about how nice it is here. How blessed we where that we are here serving a mission at this time.

We both talk to everyone.  The people here like to show you that they speak English so they well talk to you. Earlier this week we were in the marketplace. We had a lot of people wanting to talk with us. Next week we have to take then some Book of Mormons. Yesterday Sister was at the Hospital with a missionary. She had several people ask about the church. She took their names and numbers and will give it to the missionaries. It's like that everywhere we go. It is so awesome.

I just wanted to share my day with you. It was such a beautiful day. We had a great time. I have to go now. We have to go to the baptism at the church across the street.
Love you all,
Sister McKnight
